When Overwhelm Became the Doorway to Wisdom

This entry comes from a day when the work I was doing for Decoding Life became too heavy to carry alone. What started as a task turned into a lesson — one I did not see coming but needed more than I knew.

Raw Experience

I was working on an important task. A task that's imperative before taking the next step in the overall project. The task — designing and setting up the website for Decoding Life. I went in knowing I was not tech savvy but determined to figure it out. Spending countless hours feeling lost and overwhelmed — I quit!

Not to never return to it. But to take a break from it.

God has shown me that things will get done best out of peace and stillness, not chaos and frustration — therefore bringing clarity and wisdom on how to move forward on completing a complicated task. My peace comes from having a relationship with God. The One I turn to with any question.

The frustration was real. But so was something else — the reminder of the hard inner work I have done.

I am not who I used to be.

The old me would have seen stepping back as failure and walked away from the whole thing entirely. This time I paused. And in that pause I asked myself — what does God say about this?

So today I asked Him about being overwhelmed and how to work through that feeling. This is so important to know because during my life there will be many situations and tasks that I will get overwhelmed by — and may even sometimes want to give up, letting one task or one step destroy manifesting my desires because I quit.

In searching for answers God met me at James 1:5. From that verse I heard God telling me that feeling challenged or overwhelmed is normal. He doesn't judge me for not having the knowledge to perform the task. He wants me to go deeper than just knowing the information. God wants me to use wisdom — knowing how to respond, what steps to take, and how to act in faith when I don't have all the answers.

I needed to be still long enough to hear the directions from God!

Internal Alignment

God comes first! Always. In everything I do. That is not something I have to think about anymore — it is just who I am now.

When seeking wisdom from God it may come through clarity, a calm mind, guidance from others, or just the strength to take the next step toward completion. For me it came through all of it. I stopped wasting time on something I was not skilled at, handed it off, and focused on what I could do.

Being overwhelmed does not have to equal failure. Instead take that opportunity to invite God into that situation and rely on Him.

Scripture on My Heart

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." — James 1:5 NIV

Turning Point

On this day I realized the inner work was showing up in real time. I did not quit and disappear. I paused, asked God, accepted help, and kept moving.

Pause & Reflect

If this mirrors something in your life, you don't have to name it right now. Just allow yourself to sit with the truth of it…

…and remember that faith doesn't ask for a perfect leap. It just asks for the courage to take the next honest step, trusting God for the strength to keep going — or sometimes, the blessing comes simply from a tiny mustard seed of trust.

With Love,

lakisha
